Pay Range: 

Teachers (including Psychologists, Occupational, Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Counselors) hired into AcademyACL are placed on the appropriate job band level based on the following factors:

a) the educational background of the applicant and
b) the number of years of prior job related experience 

The minimum salary for a this position is $48900/yr and the maximum salary is $57,000+/yr.

Description of Responsibilities/Experience/Skillset:

All teachers must meet the requirement of a "highly qualified teacher" as mandated by Colorado law. Requirements are as follows:


A. Must have obtained a Bachelor's degree or higher;


B. Must have demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area(s) that he/she teaches by passing a content area test or enough hours to be equivalent to a major (24 semester hours). The core academic areas are English; Reading or Language Arts; Mathematics; Science; Foreign Languages; Social Studies (Civics, Government, Economics, History, Geography); the Arts (visual arts, Drama, Music).


≈ Must be “highly qualified” under an elementary model to teach all core subjects, including those at the 6th -8th grade levels.

 

C. May have licensure/endorsement: The 3rd requirement, as mandated for public school employees, is Colorado teaching license/certification. As a charter school, AcademyACL has waived the requirement for state certification in order to provide its students with access to excellent teachers who are otherwise highly qualified.

 

AcademyACL holds strong preference for teachers who hold Colorado licensure and gifted education endorsements.

 

Candidate should have concentrations, research, and/or experience, and be prepared to continue to develop skill and expertise, in the following areas:
- Curriculum & Instruction for K8 Elementary Model expectations
- Gifted Education

 

Candidate should be prepared to continually renew or achieve initial Colorado teaching licensure status, and to pursue Gifted Education Endorsement, if hired.

Job Summary: The Classroom Teacher is expected to provide a highly challenging, highly supportive gifted education program that meets the vision and the mission of AcademyACL under the guidance of the Academy Director. The Classroom Teacher is entrusted with the education and support of students in his/her homeroom classroom and additional students for a particular subject or time period as appropriate. Teachers are expected to consider every student in the building as “my student”, and to build relationships with other students in the teaching team and within the school as possible and appropriate. Teachers are expected to instruct and support a wide range of developmental needs in multi-age classrooms. Teachers are expected to support all other teachers and staff members in the mission of AcademyACL. Classroom teachers are expected to contribute to a highly challenging and highly supportive school climate that is aligned with best practices in gifted education.

 

AcademyACL uses an elementary model instruction where all core teachers providing instruction in all core subjects; and a secondary model of students traveling to assigned classes in literacy and in math regardless of their grade level. Each Division teacher has a homeroom class of the assigned two grade levels for Lifeskills (social-emotional learning) and for science and history; and an assigned level of reading/writing and an assigned level of math (with qualifications and expertise taken into account) from a given level of Colorado Academic Standards that may have multiple grade levels of students attending that level of instruction. 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

The work is mostly walking and standing with periods of sitting.  Typical positions require workers to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, ladders or scaffolding; bend and crouch; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; demonstrate an athletic activity or physical exercise; feel the shape, size and temperature of objects; and physically restrain students.  The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors.

 

This job may require safety strategies for supporting students who are working on behavior plans, such as CPI/Crisis Prevention training and techniques designed to protect students and self from injury. This job also requires emotional stamina and personal stress management to maintain a positive approach with students, parents, families, and colleagues throughout the entire scheduled time, including students with very high energy and some with low impulse control.
